WEEK 1
As I want to further my skills and knowledge in fine art, being proactive about my creative development will allow me to get the most out of my EPQ.
In general, I have a few goals that I wish to achieve through the learning processes of the EPQ including:
-to self-direct my progress throughout
-to gain a new artistic skill
-to produce and stick to a long term plan
-to identify problems and right them efficiently
When evaluating my project at its culmination, I will assess whether these goals were met in the most suitable way.
There are many routes that I can take into the area of fine art including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography and film. In my academic studies I have already explored painting and drawing so wish to become accomplished in something new. However, in terms of practicality, I have to rule out a few options. Exploring sculpture may be expensive due to materials and would require space, a certain set of tools, and a knowledge basis of the materiality as picking up sculpture as a beginner would take time to develop into a successful project topic. This is similar to my reasoning behind not doing a project on filmmaking as I lack recording equipment, software or editing knowledge.
This leaves me to photography as a subject matter. I have a basis of knowledge of digital photography, but there are other avenues close that I could pick up new skills in. Film photography has always been something that I've wanted to learn more about and this fits into the creative sector so I believe that this would be a good starting point.
